What We Are Looking For:
We are looking for a highly motivated, knowledgeable, and versatile individual to join our engineering staff out of our Metairie, LA office. This role will work closely with our Program Manager, Inspector, Technicians, Engineers and clients in Louisiana and across the country. This position will lead inspections on initial, routine, underwater, fracture critical, and in-depth inspections. A Team Leader will be physically on-site at all times. What You’ll Do:
- Responsible for organizing, preparing, documenting, and managing a safe, thorough inspection of bridges
- Coordinate and perform field inspections, evaluate bridge conditions, write reports and ensure timely submission of inspection documents
- Lead teams and groups in structural assessment, which may include providing general instruction, assigning and reviewing work and coaching/training
- Provide effective on-the-job training for bridge inspectors in the proper inspection technique, only allowing bridge inspectors to perform un-assisted inspections of bridge components in areas of demonstrated competence, with the acknowledgement that the inspection and documentation responsibility cannot be delegated
- Coordinates with clients, owners and other agencies on inspection schedules, traffic control, and quality control of inspections
- Assist bridge inspection teams with field inspections performed on ground level, hydraulic equipment, ladder access or using rope access techniques
- Apply National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and Specifications for the National Bridge Inventory (SNBI) inspection techniques to complete bridge inspections while evaluating a variety of structure types, including girders, culverts, retaining walls, ancillary and highway structures
- Determine if previous NBIS ratings and element condition states are still applicable for each component based on current findings and new SNBI specifications
- Update DOT web-based reporting systems with inspection scheduling, findings, and reporting information
- Perform inspections using nondestructive testing and evaluation (NDT-E) and visual inspection methods using specialized access equipment
- Perform Inspector roles and responsibilities in absence of Bridge Inspector
- Perform other duties as assigned
What You Need to Be Successful:
- Knowledge of structural inspection and/or design of conventional and complex bridges including cable-stayed, suspension, truss, and movable structures
- Excellent technical writing, organization and communication skills
- Experience with materials and deterioration of concrete and steel
- Experience with hand tools, power tools and their proper application
- Comfortable working at heights (250 feet +) and outdoors in inclement weather

Qualifications:
- Meet the qualifications of a Team Leader per the LADOTD Bridge Inspection manual in one of the following five ways:
- Have the qualifications of the Program Manager; or
- Have five years bridge inspection experience and have successfully completed an FHWA approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course; or
- Be certified as a Level III or IV Bridge Safety Inspector under the National Society of Professional Engineers' program for National Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) and have successfully completed an FHWA approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course; or
- Have all of the following:
- A bachelor's degree in engineering from a college or university accredited by or determined as substantially equivalent by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology;
- Successfully passed the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying Fundamentals of Engineering examination;
- Two years of bridge inspection experience; and
- Successfully completed an FHWA approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course; or
- Have all of the following:
- An associate's degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university accredited by or determined as substantially equivalent by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology;
- Four years of bridge inspection experience; and
- Successfully completed an FHWA approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course.
- Complete a cumulative total 18 hours of FHWA-approved bridge inspection refresher training over each 60 month period
- Willing to travel 50% + and conduct field work
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable record to drive company vehicles
- SPRAT L1 Certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire

Salary Range: $85,000 - $105,000 per year
