Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Battery Manufacturing North Carolina (TBMNC) BEV Manufacturing Department is looking for a passionate and highly-motivated System Integration & Agile Principal Engineer.
The primary responsibility of this role is to lead and manage the third-party system integration team to ensure efficient execution of the backlog, resolution of issues, and continuous improvement of team performance. This individual will also collaborate with functional leaders to intake, prioritize & allocate work, while ensuring Agile practices are followed and key metrics are tracked.
Reporting to the TBMNC Manufacturing Operation Management Functional Manager, the person in this role will support the TBMNC BEV Manufacturing Systems department's objective to ensure seamless execution of system integration tasks by managing the third-party team, driving Agile processes, and aligning deliverables with business needs to support organizational goals.
What you’ll be doing
- Manage the third-party system integration team, ensuring they execute the backlog effectively, fix bugs, coordinate system testing, create technical documentation, and solve problems promptly. Drive team performance to ensure peak efficiency and adherence to timelines.
- Ensure strong Agile practices are followed, manage the team's velocity, and track key metrics, including sprint progress, backlog health, interrupt buffer, emergent work buffer, and delivery efficiency. Ensure work is flowing smoothly through the system and that the team is continuously improving.
- Work closely with Functional Area Leads to intake and prioritize their backlogs, ensuring the development team is well-positioned to meet their needs. Provide guidance on optimizing backlog priorities to meet organizational goals and KPIs.
- Own the resolution of critical issues and blockers within the team, ensuring the team is focused on delivering high-priority work.
- Work proactively to address any bottlenecks and escalate issues as necessary.
- Oversee the management of the integration team's backlog, ensuring that work items are well-defined and properly prioritized.
- Facilitate backlog grooming and sprint planning sessions with key stakeholders to ensure the team is aligned with business priorities.
What you bring
- B.A./B.S. in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field AND/OR commensurate experience.
- Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Proven experience managing or leading technical teams, preferably in system integration or application development environments.
- Demonstrated experience working with third-party vendors or outsourced teams, managing relationships and performance to ensure deliverables are met.
- Experience in Siemens Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) products such as OpCenter EXDS, APS, Teamcenter, or other Manufacturing Operations Management software.
- Demonstrated ability to manage Agile processes, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and tracking team velocity. Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
- Proven experience in issue resolution, problem-solving, prioritizing and managing escalations related to system integrations and technical teams.
- Strong communication skills with experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams, understanding their needs, and ensuring development priorities are clearly communicated and met.
- Strong business relationship development and management skills.
- Ability to track and report key metrics (e.g., velocity, sprint progress, backlog health, etc.) to ensure the team remains focused on high impact tasks and continuously improves.
- Previous experience managing an ‘interrupt buffer’ and ‘emergent work buffer’ to ensure the team can adapt to changing priorities without disrupting ongoing projects.
Added bonus if you have
- Advanced degree preferred.
- Work experience in system integration for complex enterprise applications, including ERP, Siemens OpCenter EXDS, or WMS systems.
- 5+ years of experience managing system integrations with third-party vendors, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and ensuring the quality of external deliverables.
- Familiarity with project management tools such as JIRA, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms.
- Experience with DevOps practices and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems.
- Previous experience as a Scrum Master with knowledge of sprint facilitation, backlog refinement, and maintaining team velocity.
- Background in managing remote or distributed teams, especially third-party service or AMS providers.
