Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Production Control Department is looking for a passionate, highly motivated, enthusiastic and initiative-taking Packaging Engineer.
Reporting to the Manager, PC Packaging, the person in this role will support the Production Control department's objective to provide safe and efficient packaging that minimizes cost and meets manufacturing requirements.
What you’ll be doing:
Daily communication with Manufacturing and Production Control members to resolve issues and continuous packaging design and process optimization
Individual KPI management in the way of quality, scrap, expendable, cost and model launch packaging development based on Hoshin requirements
Identify areas of improvement on current packaging designs and take lead role on packaging change implementation
New packaging design, development and approval
Resolve daily operational packaging issues by communicating with suppliers and implementing/coordinating short- and long-term countermeasures effectively
Ensure other members of the team are meeting the KPIs for individual responsible areas (ex. new model project lead)
Manage annual new model project budgets
Work with all levels in each shop within the organization
Gain a deep understanding of TPS (Toyota production System) by interacting with numerous TMMK groups to resolve packaging issues: Quality, Parts Ordering, Cost Management, Logistics, Production Planning, Lineside Team Members, Conveyance, and other key groups within TMMK
What you bring:
Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in fields such as Packaging, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Systems Engineering OR 3+ years of engineering experience
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
High level proficiency in use of Microsoft Excel
Strong project management skills
Process management experience with cross-departmental impact. Must be able to develop and follow operating procedures and measure results utilizing process control standards and KPI’s
Strong knowledge of end-to-end Production Control and Supply Chain flow and function
Ability to represent the department by effectively and independently communicating (via presentations and written communications) to all levels of the organization
Experience and basic understanding of Toyota Way principles of problem-solving (Including Toyota Production System (TPS), Toyota Business Practice (TBP), Hoshin, On the Job Development (OJD), Just-in-Time (JIT))
KPI Management/Visualization experience
Ability to work daily overtime 15% - 25% with increased potential during model change activities
Ability to conduct physical duty requirements (lifting, squatting, bending, etc.; within Toyota ergo standards)
Ability to walk 25% or more during daily work (production Genchi Genbutsu)
Ability to travel up to 10%
Added bonus if you have:
Packaging Engineering experience
Active fork truck license
Experience in data analysis and visualization
Experience in Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps)
Experience in creating and/or manipulating tables and queries in Microsoft Access
Functional project management skills in a large-scale manufacturing environment
Developing project strategies, problem-solving and countermeasures
