DLA: Transportation Assistant / Alternate Site Manager
Job Summary
The Transportation Assistant / Alternate Site Manager supports the Distribution Center’s mission to manage and execute efficient logistics operations including receiving, storage, inventory, packaging, COSIS, stock control, issue processing, packing, shipping, and distribution of contingency materials for both DLA wholesale and Army SSA retail operations. This role oversees transportation operations and serves as the Alternate Site Manager with full authority to act on behalf of the contractor when the primary Site Manager is unavailable.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Act as Alternate Site Manager with full authority over contract performance in the absence of the Site Manager.
- Oversee a freight terminal responsible for arranging transportation for all issue transactions.
- Direct employees in planning outbound shipping loads and scheduling movements via air, surface, small parcel, and sea.
- Ensure compliance with applicable contracts, DTC, SDDC, and SDDC Global Freight Management (GFM) system applications.
- Complete and manage transportation documentation including Bills of Lading (BOLs), manifests, and other required forms.
- Plan and allocate resources including personnel, equipment, and materials based on weekly or monthly workload projections.
- Establish deadlines, priorities, and work sequences in accordance with Site Manager guidance.
- Adjust staffing and resources to meet unexpected workload changes and daily fluctuations.
- Conduct planning for current and future work schedules, including staffing estimates and workload data.
- Ensure all work is performed efficiently and in compliance with contract terms.
- Use WMS and other Government-Furnished Data Systems to fulfill PWS requirements.
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in transportation using WMS or an equivalent automated WMS within the past five (5) years.
- Knowledge of Government and Commercial Traffic Management functions and processes.
- Ability to supervise and manage transportation operations effectively.
- Familiarity with government logistics systems and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience acting in a leadership capacity with authority over contract performance.
- Strong planning, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience with DTC, SDDC, and GFM systems.
- Knowledge of transportation documentation and compliance standards.
