The Employee Self-Service (ESS) agent is transforming how employees access support and navigate the workplace. By combining conversational AI, contextual signals, and adaptive workflows, the ESS agent delivers personalized, real-time assistance directly in the flow of work. It helps employees find and understand company policies, locate workplace resources, and complete everyday tasks with clarity and confidence. Whether it’s reviewing benefits, managing a 401(k), ordering food from the cafeteria, or figuring out where to charge an EV, the ESS agent is designed to be a proactive, practical companion for daily employee needs.
The ESS design team is leading this transformation by crafting intuitive, human-centered experiences that simplify complexity and foster trust. We are a multidisciplinary team passionate about design excellence, systems thinking, inclusive innovation, technical craft, and prototype-first explorations. We collaborate deeply across product, engineering, and research to shape the future of workplace assistance. We design for AI-powered, conversational, and adaptive experiences while balancing usability, transparency, and trust in systems that learn and evolve.
This role offers a unique opportunity to influence how employees interact with policies, benefits, and workplace resources. You’ll grow your craft in user-centered and AI-powered design, learning how to shape system behavior, evaluate outcomes, and design for trust in intelligent systems—while helping build a product that simplifies the everyday experience at work.
A 45-min portfolio review presentation is expected as part of the interview process for this role. Your presentation should showcase your work experience and demonstrate your design and storytelling skills, along with your authentic interest for the space through compelling communication.

Responsibilities
As a Product Designer on the ESS team, you will:
- Translate user insights into actionable design strategies that improve everyday employee experiences.
- Design end-to-end workflows that simplify complex policies, tools, and support systems.
- Develop visual, interaction, and conversational designs that are emotionally resonant and clear—even when systems behave dynamically.
- Prototype and test AI-driven experiences, including conversational flows, adaptive interfaces, and smart recommendations.
- Collaborate with PMs, engineers, and researchers to shape AI behaviors, responses, and guardrails that are helpful, transparent, and trustworthy.
- Use AI tools to accelerate research synthesis, ideation, and design exploration.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to iterate on solutions that balance user needs with business and technical constraints.
- Contribute to the evolution of ESS’s design language and accessibility standards.
- Design Excellence: Understand the behaviors, motivations, and needs of our customers to develop and deliver relevant and impactful experiences. In-depth understanding of Design Systems and how to deliver impactful experiences within those constraints.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: You will interact with creative team members, product managers, engineers, and executive stakeholders to define, iterate, and implement new and existing product features, ensuring alignment with business, technical, and user requirements. You will work with user researchers to coordinate testing efforts, interpret test results, and incorporate results into design efforts. Participate in and contribute to foundational research.
- Compelling Communication & Storytelling: Present design concepts and decisions to cross functional partners and stakeholders, articulating design rationale clearly and effectively.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field
- OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 1+ year(s) relevant internship/work experience working in product or service design;
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 2+ years related work experience working in product or service design;
- OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).
- 2+ years experience shipping products to customers as a result of an end-to-end design process
- Experience designing and prototyping in Figma

Product Design IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.
