We are looking for a Principal PC Health & Diagnostics Architect to lead the architecture of next‑generation diagnostics for HP Notebooks, Desktops, and Workstations. In this role, you will design intelligent diagnostic systems that operate across firmware, OS, and telemetry, enabling PCs to accurately identify hardware, environmental, and peripheral related issues and proactively communicate health status to users and IT administrators.
This role is ideal for a senior architect with deep PC systems knowledge who wants to solve complex, real‑world problems at scale and significantly reduce support cost, misdiagnosis, and customer escalations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Systems Diagnostics Architecture
Define the architecture for intelligent, in‑situ diagnostics spanning firmware, OS, and system telemetry.
Design mechanisms to accurately distinguish between hardware failure, software issues, environmental factors, and third‑party peripheral interference.
2. Telemetry & Health Monitoring
Partner with firmware, BIOS, and OS teams to expose critical system telemetry while respecting privacy and compliance requirements.
Collaborate with data science teams to enable AI‑assisted analysis of large telemetry datasets.
3. Peripheral & Ecosystem Awareness
Architect detection logic for misbehaving peripherals (e.g., docks, USB devices, displays).
Enable systems to proactively surface compatibility or out‑of‑spec issues to users and IT admins.
4. Proactive Communication & Fleet Management
Design health notification mechanisms using enterprise standards (e.g., telemetry pipelines, SNMP, WMI).
Enable IT administrators to triage and manage fleet health without user intervention.
5. Quality, Accuracy & Cross‑Functional Leadership
Establish validation strategies to ensure high diagnostic accuracy and minimal false positives.
Influence roadmaps across R&D, Quality, and Customer Support from NPI through end‑of‑life.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM field.
10+ years of experience in PC systems architecture, firmware, or advanced diagnostics
Direct experience in the PC industry (Workstations/Notebooks) or complex systems like Aerospace or Automotive where "In-Situation" diagnostics are critical.
Preferred Experience
Experience with telemetry pipelines, SNMP, WMI, or enterprise systems management
Exposure to predictive health monitoring or sensor‑driven diagnostics
Background in large‑scale PC fleets, workstations, automotive, aerospace, or similar complex systems
Who Will Thrive in This Role
Architects who enjoy solving ambiguous, system‑level problems with real customer impact
Engineers who can think across hardware, firmware, OS, and data
Leaders who can translate complex system behavior into clear actions for both users and IT administrators
Technologists motivated by preventing issues not just detecting them
The pay range for this role is $130,700 to $205,200 USD annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to United States of America candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
