Job Overview
This position establishes and manages the policies, procedures, and measurements by which the quality of PMO manufactured components, parts and machines are measured against. This position manages the introduction and incorporation of Komatsu LTD quality practices and policies, in part or in whole, into the PMO quality system.
Scope
This position is responsible for the establishment and management of inspection criteria used for parts, components and machines. To accomplish this, a documentation system will be established and maintained housing the inspection results confirming the acceptance of the parts, components and machines. This will require continuous interface with all manufacturing departments.
This position will establish, maintain and improve PMO QC indices which will be used to measure the quality performance in the manufacture of our machines. Indices which may be used are; on line defects, off line defects, scrap and rework and 100-hour claims, rejection ratio of parts received and amount of material awaiting disposition (AD).
This position will be responsible for all quality confirmation activities associated with a yearly volume of 200-300 machines and hundreds of service parts, all valued at an excess of $500 million.
To develop, administer, and manage the ISO9000 standards and the interface of Komatsu standards within product quality.
Manage the overall direction of the product Quality Department = 3 people including the manager and 10-20 hourly inspectors.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Manage the establishment and maintenance of quality policies and procedures used for PMO products.
- Introduce and assist in the implementation of new performance improvement directives for various manufacturing departments.
- Manage the development and implementation of resolution action plans for manufacturing quality issues.
- Establish a system to maintain and store quality certification documentation resulting from internal inspections.
- Manage department annual capacity cost plans and implement necessary actions.
- Review and incorporate Komatsu policies and practices (in part or in whole) within PMO
- Establish yearly targets for QC Indices and manage the programs and activities to achieve the goals.
- Assist in the implementation of ISO14000, ISO9000 and other industry standards within PMO as a team member
- Develop action plans to reduce the amount of inventory in “awaiting disposition” and implement re-occurrence prevention activities to maintain a minimum AD level.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Minimum of a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Quality Management with 5 to 7 years of experience in manufacturing, supplier development and quality control.
- Knowledge of heavy industry manufacturing is required, knowledge of construction and mining equipment preferred.
- Working knowledge of Quality Control and Quality Assurance practices and procedures and industry standards is required. Working knowledge of Supplier development practice would be a bonus.
- Persuasive communication skills, as well as ability to interface with all levels of people.
- Excellent presentation and writing skills.
- Strong working skills with computers (spreadsheets, data bases, etc.).
- Strong analytical skills (economic and analysis).
- Strong organizational skills.
Hiring Range
At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $112,720. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
