Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Safety Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Safety Strategy & Planning Engineer.
The primary responsibility of this role is to provide proactive safety support to the North American Region. Areas of focus will include establishing robust safety standards and procedures, support of site operations in implementing regional and local safety initiatives, and monitoring progress toward KPI targets. Additional responsibilities will include support of construction projects and monitoring the safety impact of new technologies.
What you’ll be doing
Focused on implementation of safety culture initiatives and installation of safety training dojos across North America, Canada, and Mexico
Lead planning efforts and support project plans for safety training dojo implementation and improvements
Work closely with the safety management system lead for alignment of activity
Strategize and execute long-term plans for safety culture initiatives
Develop and coordinate regional audit schedules for safety culture
Continue to grow each safety culture program and create training and guidelines as resources for implementation
Drive Hoshin safety initiatives from conception to completion, ensuring alignment with organizational safety goals
Analyze root causes for program gaps and deficiencies and enact countermeasure activity
Present regular project updates to leadership and executives
Lead collaboration activity with cross-functional groups to implement countermeasures
Track and monitor implementation of Safety initiatives across the region
Establish and track safety culture practices and KPI’s across all Toyota locations
Lead, support, and participate in key safety initiatives within the safety business unit
Gather and analyze data to support safety culture focused projects for all North American sites
Calculate risks and challenge the status quo with deep analysis of the situation
Provide clients with regular updates on the status of safety projects, ensuring transparency and strong communication
What you bring
Bachelor’s degree in one of the following: Occupational Safety & Health, Fire Science, Industrial Engineering, Public Health, or similar – or equivalent years of professional working experience
5 years of experience developing, implementing, and managing safety programs, including project management skills
Demonstrated experience managing projects requiring critical thinking (kaizen), problem solving, data analysis & verification
Experience developing and delivering presentations, generating effective reports, conducting applicable standards research
Ability to maintain a high level of activity, managing multiple ongoing projects, and working effectively in a team environment
Experience tracking milestones for projects and reporting on status updates
What you may bring
Safety related certification(s) such as, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE)
Master’s degree Occupational Safety & Health, Fire Science, Industrial Engineering, Public Health, or equivalent degree
OSHA 10 hour
OSHA 30 hour
