PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The Maintenance Electrician functions as a key member of a multi-skilled team to safely and effectively maintain facility infrastructure and critical systems at the Joint Defense Facility Pine Gap (JDFPG). You will provide professional technical repair and maintenance of all assigned facility infrastructure, including elements of planning, organization, coordination, and resource management.
The Maintenance Electrician is responsible for the efficient identification and completion of maintenance tasks to maximize productivity and equipment reliability. Working within a small team of experienced tradespeople, you will support both mission and routine business operations, contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, and respond to unscheduled repairs.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate and maintain facility infrastructure, systems, and equipment.
- Repair malfunctions by replacing burned-out elements, fuses, and defective wiring.
- Clean and repair electrical motors; test equipment (motors, heaters, and controls) for safety and efficiency using standard test equipment.
- Execute rapid and reliable response to abnormal facility operational situations and emergencies, including equipment repair.
- Liaise and communicate with peers to ensure best-practice standardization, coverage, and continuous individual and team improvement.
- Monitor and facilitate the update of technical drawings, panel schedules, and equipment operating procedures.
- Maintain a complete and current working understanding of all relevant facilities infrastructure, equipment, and systems.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of job-related documents (Work Orders, timesheets, safety reports) and process information from paper into digital systems.
- Install new electrical equipment and infrastructure as requested.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Strong understanding of Work Health Safety (WHS) Act, and EHS policies & procedures.
- Demonstrated experience working within Facility Maintenance or a similar technical environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of technical terminology relating to electrical infrastructure and electronic equipment.
- Strong understanding of facilities equipment functionality and O&M requirements (preventive, predictive, & corrective).
- Demonstrated capacity to gain understanding across other technical areas such as High Voltage and Power Generation.
- High level of problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and general computer skills.
Desirable
- Demonstrated understanding of 110V (US) power.
- Enterprise Resource Planning experience (e.g., SAP, Archibus).
- Experience with Industrial Electrical, Power Distribution, Industrial Control Circuits, and VFDs.

Essential

Australian Candidates: Must hold and maintain an Australian "A" Grade Electrical Licence.

US Candidates: Must hold and maintain a minimum of a US State Journeyman’s Licence.

US Candidates (Arizona): Must hold and maintain a US State "Contractors" Licence.
- Construction Industry Induction (White Card).
Desirable
- Low Voltage Rescue, Working at Heights, and Confined Space entry.
- First Aid/CPR.
- Forklift Licence and Elevated Work Platform (EWP).
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 4 years post-trade experience.
- Experience with a diverse range of power distribution equipment is highly regarded.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be medically fit to work and safely complete all physical tasks associated with the role.
- Ability to carry and control moderate to heavy loads.
- Ability to safely traverse and access maintenance environments which may be uneven or cramped.
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT
It is a condition of employment at JDFPG that employees obtain and retain the appropriate level of security and medical clearance.

Requirement: Candidates will initially require an NV1 clearance, with the intent of applying for a Top-Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) (Australian) or TS/SCI (U.S.) clearance with Polygraph.

- At least 18 years of age.
- Able to fluently read, write, and speak English.
EHS (ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH, AND SAFETY) REQUIREMENT
All personnel are responsible for:
- Completing work tasks in a safe manner and adhering to the JDFPG Handbook.
- Reporting any unsafe acts or conditions to supervisors or the EHS Manager.

Stop Work Authority: The right and responsibility to “Red-Card” or stop a job if it is unsafe or poses a danger to the environment.
Compensation Details:
US: $120,000- $140,000
