The Role
The GMNA Vehicle Mass Integration team is seeking upbeat individuals who are looking to join a fast-paced team with dynamic responsibilities. The Mass Integration Engineer at General Motors has responsibility for the development, modeling, and validation of vehicle level mass targets. This includes center of gravity, certification mass, and vehicle limits which are critical in developing safe competitive vehicles for our customers, while ensuring the success of the corporate fuel economy and greenhouse gas strategies. Individuals also have an opportunity to be a change agent to craft the future of our team through advancements of systems and processes.
What You’ll Do
- Provides technical support to Vehicle Program Teams, Vehicle Performance Team, System Management Team engineering organizations, Global Propulsion Systems, Emission Certification, TACER, Manufacturing Engineering, Order Fulfilment, Marketing, Quality, Validation/Durability, Communications, and production facilities.
- Vehicle level mass imperative owner for all mass properties on assigned programs (Vehicle Certification Mass, Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, Gross Axle Weight Ratings, Center of Gravity, etc.)
- Develops and maintains vehicle and System Management Team (SMT) level mass targets and status for new and major programs.
- Develops and maintains model and option weight masses to predict all vehicle configurations for vehicle regulatory labels.
- Key member of Vehicle Program Teams, Vehicle and Process Integration Review, Vehicle Performance Integration Team and conducts Mass PITs to assure that mass status to target is understood, and reduction initiatives are implemented, as the need arises.
- Participates in the cost reduction/quality improvement process to assure mass targets remain viable.
- Generates technical mass reduction solutions for current, new, and major programs.
- Specifies and balances vehicle mass distribution, EPA mass and Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings
- This is a hybrid role based in Warren, with some remote work and occasional visits to PPO, GAW, Milford, and assembly plants as required to support vehicle builds.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelors Degree
- 2+ years of professional work experience
- Comfortable dealing with and analyzing large quantities of data.
- High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex.
- High level of oral/written communication skills
- Desire to learn complex computer systems and processes.
- Passion for light weighting through competitive system/vehicle benchmarking and identification of new mass reduction technologies
- Experienced MS Excel, Vis Mockup, engineering software and systems as it pertains to job-related area.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Bachelors of Science in Engineering preferred

Experience with engineering software, MS Excel, Vis Mockup, and mainframe systems.

Familiarity with PPC (Product Program Content) and VDS (Vehicle Description Summary).
