Role Overview
We’re building something exciting in Kraków — a new Integrated Delivery Solutions team, and we are seeking a Senior Structural Engineer Starszy Inżynier/ Starsza Inżynierka Konstrukcji
The selected candidate will be employed by Critical Mission Services Sp. z o.o., part of Amentum.
About the Role Senior Structural Engineer will support Amentum’s Integrated Delivery Solutions (IDS) team in delivering structural design and engineering solutions for design and construction projects across highly regulated sectors (e.g., infrastructure, industrial, energy). You will be responsible for leading structural analyses and design, developing design deliverables (calculations, drawings, specifications), integrating with multi‑disciplinary teams, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and governance. The role requires in‑depth technical knowledge of structural engineering and basic knowledge of related disciplines (e.g., civil, geotechnical, architecture, MEP, fire, seismic).Although the role is based in Poland, projects follow predominantly UK and European standards, with additional exposure to US codes on some programmes. Training and guidance will be provided where needed.
Key responsibilities:
Lead/perform structural analysis and design for steel, reinforced concrete, and secondary structures; contribute to timber and masonry design where applicable.
Develop and own engineering deliverables: calculation packages, basis-of-design, design reports, general arrangement and detail drawings, specifications, and design risk registers.
Apply relevant codes (e.g., EN 1990–1993, EN 1997, EN 1998 where seismic is relevant; BS 5950/8110 where required by legacy), ensure compliance with client governance and project standards.
Conduct global and local analysis (static, dynamic, stability, fatigue, robustness/progressive collapse checks as applicable); review and validate models and assumptions.
Use engineering best practices and lessons learned to improve design quality, constructability, and whole‑life performance; apply value engineering while protecting safety and compliance.
Solve complex problems—develop alternative solutions, undertake sensitivity studies, and justify engineering decisions through clear, auditable reasoning.
Lead work packages or discipline steps within broader projects; plan tasks, estimate effort, manage interfaces and risks, and deliver to scope, schedule, and budget.
Coordinate with Architecture, Civil, Geotechnical, MEP, Fire, Safety, and Construction teams; participate in design workshops, model reviews, and HAZID/constructability reviews.
Prepare technical input for tenders (scope, assumptions, deliverables, estimates) and support bids with method statements and risk assessments.
Review and check work by colleagues; act as a resource/mentor for less experienced engineers, providing guidance on methods, standards, and tools.
Support regulatory and stakeholder engagement (e.g., client technical authorities, DIO, independent checkers); respond to Technical Queries (TQs) and manage design changes.
Provide site/field engineering support as needed (RFI responses, non‑conformance dispositions, as‑built review, temporary works assessments in collaboration with TWCs).
Ensure quality assurance (QA/QC), maintain calculation files and design records to IDS governance and project requirements, and align with document control procedures.
BIM integration: Collaborate effectively within BIM-enabled workflows (Revit/Tekla/Navisworks)/ Review and coordinate structural models/ Apply BIM principles in design development/ (For BIM educated or BIM coordinating engineers) Support modelling standards, CDE workflows, clash resolution, and digital delivery coordination.
Core Competencies
Technical Mastery (Discipline Depth): Strong command of structural mechanics, analysis, and design of steel and RC (plus working knowledge of timber/masonry).
Cross‑Disciplinary Awareness: Basic knowledge of related fields (e.g. geotechnical interaction, loads from MEP/process, architectural constraints, fire/seismic implications).
Problem Solving & Innovation: Able to solve complex problems and take a new perspective using existing solutions; proposes pragmatic, code‑compliant alternatives.
Independence & Accountability: Works independently with minimal guidance; accountable for ongoing activities, deliverables, and quality.
Collaboration: Effective within multi‑disciplinary and international teams; builds strong interfaces and supports integrated delivery.
Communication: Clear written and verbal communication in English and Polish; produces structured, auditable technical documentation.
Quality & Compliance: Meticulous attention to detail; champions best practices, governance, and safety (including design risk management).
Leadership & Mentoring: Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience; may lead projects or project steps and coordinate sub‑consultants/vendors.
Digital Proficiency: Proficient with structural analysis tools (e.g., Robot, SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro, or equivalent) and collaboration with BIM (Revit/Tekla) and CDEs..
Digital/BIM Capability: Ability to interpret, review, and coordinate BIM models/ (Advantage) Experience or education in BIM workflows, clash detection, and model based coordination.
Qualifications - External
Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (MSc/MEng preferred).
Chartered (e.g., CEng MICE/MIStructE) or actively working toward chartership.
Significant experience (6+ years) delivering structural engineering design in highly regulated sectors (e.g., defence, industrial, infrastructure, energy).
Demonstrated experience with Eurocodes (EN 1990–1999) and relevant BS standards; familiarity with UK National Annexes and client governance (e.g., DIO) is advantageous.
Familiarity with US codes (e.g., AISC, ACI 318, ASCE 7, IBC) is an advantage.
Practical understanding of BIM workflows; proficiency with structural tools such as Robot, ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, Revit, Tekla Structures, IDEA StatiCa, or equivalents.
Proficiency in structural analysis and finite element modelling (linear/nonlinear, stability, dynamic) and preparation of calculation packages suitable for independent check.
Experience across design lifecycle stages (e.g., concept to detailed design; familiarity with RIBA stages is a plus) and supporting construction/field engineering.
BIM coordination exposure and collaboration within CDEs; ability to interpret and mark up GA/detail drawings and models.
Experience must reflect engineering analysis/design responsibilities, not solely site execution or maintenance.
