Diego Garcia: Assistant Fire Chief for Fire Prevention – Contingency
DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Complies with applicable SOP and in accordance with OPNAVINST series 11320.23.
- Reviews and provides recommendation to Fire Chief for any updates to DGLOCALCOORDINST 11320.7G.
- Ensures fire risks are identified, documented, and mitigated in a timely manner.
- Provides and maintains fire prevention and code enforcement programs that promote and educate the public on fire prevention, life safety, fire code compliance, fire risk reduction and control of fires and other hazards.
- Implements and executes existing integrated fire prevention programs.
- Must attend pre-acceptance and acceptance testing for new construction or alteration of facilities.
- Must be able to conduct facility plan reviews and provide corrective measures to meet applicable building codes.
- Responsible for the oversight of E-28 Arresting Gear Maintenance and Fire Inspections.
- Must participate in ITT exercises when directed by Deputy Fire Chief and/or Fire Chief.
BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have good oral and written communication skills which enable to effectively liaise with clients, other departments within the organization, subcontractors and clients, and report directly to the Senior Management.
- Particular attention to details, good project management skills.
- Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health.
- Must be contract oriented and computer literate in Microsoft Office software.
- Must have a valid and be able to obtain Government driver’s license.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING
- Must be certified IAW contract requirements.
- Must obtain and maintain Airfield Vehicle Operator Certificate (AVOC).

- DoD/IFSAC/Pro Board (Firefighter I and II)
- DoD/IFSAC/Pro Board (Fire Inspector I, II and II)
- DoD/IFSAC/Pro Board (Fire Instructor I, II)
- DoD/IFSAC/Pro Board (Fire Investigator I)
- DoD/IFSAC/Pro Board (Fire Officer I, II) III is preferred
- DoD/IFSAC/Pro Board (HAZMAT Awareness)
- DoD/IFSAC/Pro Board (HAZMAT Incident Commander)
- DoD/IFSAC/Pro Board (HAZMAT Operations with Mission-Specific Competencies, Personal Protective Equipment, and Product Control)
- DoD/IFSAC/Pro Board (Plan Examiner I)
- DoD/IFSAC/Pro Board (Public Fire and Life Safety Educator)
- Adult First Aid/CPR/AED Training from American Red Cross
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and NOTES:
- Licensed professional fire protection engineers from accredited university are granted equivalence for Fire Inspector III, Fire Instructor II, and Plans Examiner I and do not require DoD certifications for the Assistant Chief for Fire Prevention position.
EDUCATION:
- Must be at least high school diploma, technical or vocational course graduate is required; Associate or bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- The Assistant Fire Chief for Prevention shall attend NFPA 101 Life Safety Course.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 3 years as an Assistant Fire Chief for Prevention in a fire prevention program of size and scope similar to that required on Diego Garcia.
