Diego Garcia: Lead, Satellite Communications (SATCOM) Electronics Technician – Contingency
DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads, organizes, and reports the on-duty operational activities of his/her assigned watch section in the SATCOM Earth Terminal System.
- Coordinates with distant end, SATCOM OC’s and DISA in troubleshooting efforts on Satellite links. Ensuring optimal performance of Satellite links.
- Assigns operational duties along with planned and corrective maintenance tasking to shift personnel.
- Provides technical operational guidance and assistance, as required to ensure that personnel are performing all assigned tasks in a professional manner and in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Conducts operational and technical instruction (OJT) for lower level technicians on the operation, maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of station telecommunication equipment.
- Assists watch personnel in performing corrective and preventive maintenance on telecommunication equipment.
- Applies comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems that can typically be solved by properly evaluating and interpreting manufacture’s manuals or similar technical documents.
- Operates, tunes, tests, aligns, inspects, patches, and configures all telecommunication equipment as necessary to meet operational requirements.
- Monitors and maintains all local and remote alarms.
- Assists lower level technicians and operators in troubleshooting the problem after receipt of notification, and assists in the correction, where possible.
- Monitors all order-wire queries and ensures that the queries are acknowledged in the allocated time.
- Utilizing state-of-the-art techniques and test equipment must perform all quality control tests and performance monitoring of equipment, systems, and antenna to ensure that all equipment are operated at required performance levels.
- Must be qualified to perform all assigned area operations functions; prepare telecommunication reports, failure reports and other assigned reporting requirements; maintain link level and distribution frame records.
- Ensures routine preventive and corrective maintenance are accomplished, when applicable.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and have a Secret clearance.
- Must possess administrative, organizational, and computer skills to include proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook).
- Ability to work quickly and in a potentially high-stress environment.
- Must have good oral and written communication skills which enable to effectively liaise with clients, other departments within the organization, subcontractors and clients, and report directly to the Senior Management.
- Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health.
- Must have a valid and be able to obtain driver’s license with restriction code at least 2.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING
EDUCATION:
- Successful completion of U.S. Navy Electronics Technician SATCOM "C" school for the AN/GSC-52B Modernization Enterprise Terminal or equivalent training in electronics that provides skills and knowledge necessary to acquire and maintain satellite uplink/downlink, perform crypto restarts, perform organizational level repairs to up converters, down converters, power amplifiers, servo systems and ancillary equipment with emphasis on corrective and preventive maintenance is desired.
EXPERIENCE:
- Eight (8) years general experience having progressively responsible technical or craft experience in electronics, electricity, engineering, communication, physics, or in a similar field that provided technical knowledge and background that could be applied in the testing, evaluation, installation, maintenance or repair of electronic systems and equipment.
- Within the last six (6) years four (4) years specialized experience in the theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory and of characteristics, functions, diagnosing, isolating and correcting malfunctions and performing organizational level maintenance on communications and electronic equipment including, but not limited to: : AN/GSC 52B; M/20 JUNIPER; RT2200; AN/WSC-3; DAMA;KIV-7M, KWR-4, and associated CRYPTO equipment; Fiber Optic Equipment, or two (2) years specialized experience in operation and maintenance of the above equipment at a military or commercial communications center.
