John Deere Waterloo Works: Machine Hand / Tool Room Machinist
As aMachine Hand / Tool Room Machinistwith John Deere Waterloo Works, you will:
Set up and operate one or more machines such as lathes, mills, horizontal boring machine, etc., and perform machining operations consisting of many details on a wide variety of non-repetitive parts, holding close tolerances. Work will be performed in a production environment focused on safety, quality, and teamwork.
Job details are dependent on duties assigned but in general consist of the following:
- Work from drawings, sketches, prints, 3D models, samples, written or verbal instructions.
- Perform own setups, work from part prints and job specifications.
- Plan sequence of work to be performed and determine tools and equipment needed to carry work to completion.
- Make all required mathematical calculations, lay out parts using measuring instruments and handbook tables.
- Determine machine feed and speed for work involved.
- Check own work for conformance to print and specifications.
- Use various types of tools and equipment including material handling equipment, lathes, mills, horizontal boring machines, jigs, fixtures, measuring gages and instruments, and applicable hand and power tools.
- Assist and support other team members and work with minimal supervision.
- Clean work area and perform other miscellaneous duties inherent to the job.
- Work shifts (choice of shift based on seniority).
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age.

- Must have at least one of the following:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC)
- At least 3 years of manufacturing work experience
Journeyperson’s card in Tool Room Machining or an AAS in Tool & Die or CNC Machining or a related field of study, from a post-secondary educational institution or 2 years work experience (including applicable Military experience and training).

Experience laying out and fabricating parts.

Experience utilizing precision measuring equipment and experience working from product design prints and sketches.

Ability to perform manual tasks related to described job duties for duration of work shift; including but not limited to frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting.

- Ability and willingness to work potential overtime (including weekends).
