AstronetX is seeking a Payload Software Lead who will be responsible for providing leadership to the software engineering team throughout the full development of custom software for space applications. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a dedicated team on exciting and leading-edge payload projects intended for use on and around the Moon. The Payload Software Lead will have proven experience writing custom engineering software and leading a team of software engineers from project conception through all phases of implementation.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience working with software development programs and writing engineering software; experience working with space flight software is preferred
- Experience leading a team of software developers in the full end-to-end development of a custom software solution interfacing with multiple hardware systems and enabling rapid decision-making based on data analytics
- Experience on projects with custom software, preferably space systems, but at a minimum software for controlling multiple integrated systems
- Strong communication skills along with the ability to deliver presentations and effectively communicate with technical and non-technical employees and customers at all levels
- Must be highly self-motivated with the ability to work without continuous oversight
- Strong math skills and experience working with image processing algorithms desired
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership to the AstronetX software team through the full development of custom software package from conception and design to development, testing, launch, implementation, and operations
- Lead the development of one or more new software products, modification of existing software, and development of test procedures
- Build custom software from requirements and serve as primary liaison between software and hardware teams
- Address any technical and non-technical situations, issues, and topics and manage overall communication to the team, acting as a subject matter expert that can be relied upon for support
- Impact decision-making inside and outside of software engineering realm
- Plan, identify, and coordinate resources required over the life of the project or program
- Collaborate on risk and opportunity management
- Assist with forecasting project costs and participate in budget decisions and pursuing new business opportunities
- This position is described as Remote/telework, however occasional travel for programmatic milestones and/or employee, vendor and customer relations may be required
