Our Display and Integration team is a dynamic, high-energy, and innovative group focused on developing the mechanical and thermal design of next generation Displays and their integration to our vehicle interiors. The team is responsible for developing Mechanical and Thermal design of new next gen display designs, with math, CAD, and analysis. The team also reviews and approves production display design changes.
We are seeking a high-performing mechanical/electrical designer interested in leading the in-house CAD development for GM displays. You will be responsible for the mechanical CAD design including styled surfaces/components, deco, integration of electronics (display panel, PCBs, connectors, etc.) and creating, reviewing and modifying display CAD packaging and B-side integration (clips, screw bosses, etc.) for our next generation SDV (Software Defined Vehicle) displays. You will be depended upon to build strong partnerships with internal and external customers.
Your design solutions need to be capable of meeting complex system and subsystem requirements for styled electronics. The role also requires significant collaboration with key partners in Engineering, Studio, etc. who provide critical input for your design solutions.
You will be developing virtual vehicle integration solutions – primarily for displays - to support program requirements. You will work as a fully qualified contributor who possesses a high degree of knowledge and understanding of all aspects of virtual vehicle integration. You will have broad technical knowledge, training and understanding combined with creative and independent thinking and conceptual ability within the virtual vehicle integration through multiple cycles of the Global Vehicle Development Process.
What you’ll do:
- Perform as an expert in Infotainment (Display) Design and Engineering Best Practices, with high skills in GM CAD and Data Management System, Windows Suite, and VisMockup.
- Be skilled in the development of Standard Model Methods in displays and display integration.
- Have broad technical knowledge, training and understanding combined with creative and independent thinking and conceptual ability within the virtual vehicle integration through multiple cycles of the Global Vehicle Development Process.
- Possess strong knowledge in CAD and virtual related tools, and software, and contribute to the development of Standard Modeling Methods for virtual processes.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL ALSO INCLUDE:
- Mentor team members in display system/subsystem requirements, and GM CAD and Data Management Systems for the displays and their integration
- Develop, refine, and finalize Criteria and Typical Sections
- Maintain and own Standard Modeling Methods or Virtual Integration Methods for the displays and their integration.
- Be proficient in and able to teach Design Standards, Best Practices and Global Design infoBOOK Standards
- Demonstrate application of design operations and processes (Standard modeling, Clearance Analysis, Vehicle Assembly Structure, Global Data Security, etc.)
- Apply manufacturability, Design for Assembly, and integration knowledge to parts, subsystem designs and vehicle integration
- Facilitate and participate in Design / Virtual Reviews, both scheduled and informal as required
- Document and maintain material, mass, and other part specifications within the Math file
- Support CAE with studies to improve designs
- Complete, analyze and apply NX Analysis results to solution set for displays and their integration
- Be knowledgeable of and experienced with Development Processes and the math fidelity for each cycle
- Independently integrate component subsystem designs into systems
- Perform appropriate studies / alternatives / layouts, and participate in recommendations to program direction
- Stay ahead of current product developments and trends in area of responsibility
- Support lessons learned through updating Best Practices and learning sessions with Designers
- Lead and create math data (models) or virtual layouts of very advanced and complex components, systems and subsystems
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with all partners, including global partners, where necessary
- Release system/subsystem to meet GVDP requirements with quality, on time
- Actively identify new areas for learning and take advantage of learning opportunities
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's Degree in a technical field / Product Design with 3 + years of experience in Product Design or a related field.
- Without a Technical Degree, with 10+ years of experience in Product Design or a related field.
- Experience in GM CAD (NX, Teamcenter, Vis Mockup, etc...), math release process, specifications, and data management
- Experience in Product Design concepts and manufacturing processes. (i.e., injection molding, stamping, extrusion, machining, etc.)
- Working knowledge of Vehicle Development Process
- Working knowledge of CAE
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and VisMockup
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to solve highly complex problems and lead teams to consensus when needed
- Understanding of Specification and Release terms and systems
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Vehicle Design Experience within electrical systems to include: PCB packaging and mounting, stamped metals, cast metals, A-side as well as B-side plastics (injection molded), plating / paint design guidelines for quality and manufacturability
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
