Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services supporting the U.S. government, allied partners, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Water Systems Chemist to support a unique U.S. Navy program located on the remote island of Diego Garcia.
Job Responsibilities
The Water Systems Chemist provides technical support for water treatment, water quality monitoring, and chemical analysis in accordance with Navy environmental, public health, and utility operations standards. Responsibilities include sampling, testing, and analyzing potable water, wastewater, and industrial water systems to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and operational requirements.
The chemist conducts routine chemical tests, records and evaluates results, and assists with adjusting treatment processes to maintain water quality standards. This role includes operating laboratory equipment, preparing reagents, maintaining testing supplies, and ensuring proper documentation of analytical data.
Additional duties include supporting inspections and audits, assisting with troubleshooting water quality issues, maintaining laboratory cleanliness and safety, and coordinating with utility operations personnel to address identified deficiencies. The Water Systems Chemist supports mission‑critical water system reliability and environmental compliance in a remote, mission‑driven environment.
Minimum Requirements
- 1–3 years of experience in water treatment, water quality testing, chemistry, or environmental laboratory operations
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of water chemistry, sampling methods, and laboratory testing procedures
- Ability to operate standard laboratory instruments and follow testing protocols
- Proficiency with recordkeeping, data entry, and report preparation
- Must be in possession of a valid Passport and be able to travel internationally.
- Passport should be valid for a minimum of 1 plus years at the time of hiring.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous work experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce.
- Excellent organizational, time management and customer service skills.
- Valid country driver's license
- Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
