Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services supporting the U.S. government, allied partners, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking an Air Cargo / Freight Specialist to support a unique U.S. Navy program located on the remote island of Diego Garcia.
Job Responsibilities
The Air Cargo / Freight Specialist supports air transportation and freight operations in accordance with U.S. Navy, Department of Defense, and aviation logistics standards. Responsibilities include receiving, inspecting, documenting, and preparing cargo for air shipment while ensuring compliance with weight, balance, packaging, and safety requirements.
The Air Cargo / Freight Specialist coordinates cargo movement, verifies shipping documentation, and assists with aircraft loading and unloading operations. This role includes processing manifests, tracking inbound and outbound freight, and ensuring proper handling of classified, hazardous, or priority cargo in accordance with established procedures.
Additional duties include operating material‑handling equipment, maintaining cargo staging areas, monitoring shipment status, and coordinating with aircrew, logistics teams, and transportation partners. The Air Cargo / Freight Specialist ensures accuracy, accountability, and timely cargo movement in support of mission‑critical operations in a remote environment.
Minimum Requirements
- 1–3 years of experience in air cargo operations, freight handling, logistics, or transportation support
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of cargo documentation, freight handling procedures, and aviation safety standards
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, carrying, and operating material‑handling equipment
- Must be in possession of a valid Passport and be able to travel internationally.
- Passport should be valid for a minimum of 1 plus years at the time of hiring.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous work experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce.
- Excellent organizational, time management and customer service skills.
- Valid country driver's license
- Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
