Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking an Assistant Fire Chief of Prevention to support a unique US Navy program based on the island of Diego Garcia.
Job Responsibilities
The Assistant Fire Chief of Prevention is responsible for overseeing fire prevention programs and initiatives, ensuring compliance with fire safety standards, and reducing risks to personnel and critical infrastructure. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Leading and managing the Fire Prevention section, ensuring compliance with all applicable fire prevention standards and codes, including National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) regulations.
- Developing, administering, and promoting fire prevention, protection, and public safety education programs to ensure the safety of personnel and mitigate risks.
- Leading inspection programs to ensure facilities, equipment, and operations are compliant with fire safety requirements.
- Reviewing and providing input on construction designs, building plans, and system installations to ensure compliance with fire codes and life safety standards.
- Conducting fire hazard assessments and recommending corrective actions or mitigation plans to address identified risks.
- Managing fire investigations to determine the cause of fires and utilizing findings to strengthen prevention programs.
- Supervising a multi-national team of fire inspectors, providing guidance, training, scheduling, and performance management as necessary.
- Ensuring operational readiness of all inspection, investigation, and prevention programs to meet mission-critical needs.
- Preparing and maintaining accurate reports and records on fire inspections, investigations, findings, and corrective actions.
- Serving as a critical point of liaison between the fire department, external agencies, and other stakeholder groups regarding fire prevention matters.
Minimum Requirements
- A minimum of three years of experience leading an F&ES fire prevention section or division in a fire department of similar size and scope to that of Diego Garcia.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification as Fire Inspector III and Plans Examiner I in accordance with recognized fire prevention standards or equivalent qualifications.
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills with the ability to supervise and build effective working relationships with a multi-national team.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance for the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
- Valid passport.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce.
- Valid country driver’s license.
- Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
- Familiarity with fire prevention regulations and standards as outlined by NFPA, Department of Defense (DoD), and Navy-specific requirements.
- Advanced coursework in fire prevention, inspections, and public safety initiatives.
- Experience reviewing construction blueprints/plans for compliance with fire safety standards.
- Proven ability to develop and implement fire safety education and outreach programs.
