CH2M HILL BWXT West Valley, LLC (CHBWV) is the prime contractor selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Phase 1 – Facility Disposition Project at the West Valley Demonstration Project. The site is a scenic 30-minute drive south of Buffalo, New York. In cooperation with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, CHBWV continues to decontaminate and decommission facilities at this site.

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Work Control Planner writes detailed work control instructions/procedures to complex jobs with complete understanding of principles, concepts, requirements, and craft policies. Responsible for coordination with supervisors, engineering, various subject matter experts, Operations, facility management, and area crafts to plan, order materials, and execute activities, corrective and preventative maintenance work, and project upgrade activities in a safe and expedient manner. Responsible for the resolution of issues arising from questions/problems encountered during the planning, review, and work processes.
REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or the recognized equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Decontamination and decommissioning (D&D), waste operations, or plant systems operations requirements experience is preferred.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient in Microsoft Word
- Excellent communication skills
- Knowledge of / experience in radiological work requirements
- Able to read, understand, and translate engineering drawings and specifications in maintenance/project documents.
- Advanced knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/SCOPE OF WORK
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures; including following all safety rules, use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE), investigating and reporting identified safety concerns or situations.
- Adhere to standards contained in the Company “Code of Conduct,” Company EEO practices, and DOE directives.
- Draft maintenance, operation, and complex work instructions/procedures using a complete understanding of planning principles.
- Recognize work activity hazard types and enlist appropriate subject matter experts for determining hazard controls and mitigations.
- Review work requests for services and any supporting documentation for compliance with internal requirements.
- Assist preparation of large and/or complex equipment and/or system modifications work packages for planned, unplanned, or emergent activities.
- Analyze time and material requirements for work activity.
- Perform various functional and administrative activities in conjunction with the primary work control/work package development.
- Ensure personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and hazard controls are clearly delineated in work control documents or supporting documents.
- Ensure special task specific training requirements are specified.
- Write work order changes and obtain approvals to ensure work flows smoothly.
- Regular attendance is required.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Must possess a broad knowledge of maintenance engineering skills to successfully complete difficult assignments.
- Must be able to work under general supervision, exercising reasonable judgement in determining objectives of assignments according to established procedures.
- Must be able to perform, identify, and analyze diverse work control responsibilities involving different and unrelated work control processes and methods.
- Must execute a broad scope of specific work control practices affecting the accuracy, reliability, or acceptability of further processes or services.
- Must be able to interface with employees in the department, division, and organization.
- Must be able to plan, coordinate, or advise on work efforts, or to resolve work control problems toward mutual goals.
